SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
A Youth Enrichment Program Assistant supports and enhances extracurricular programs designed to promote students' academic, social, and personal development. This role involves assisting with program planning, implementation, and supervision to create a positive and engaging environment for students.
Schedule
Wednesday, June 17 (time TBD) (Training Day)
Monday-Thursday, June 22-July 23, 12 pm-4 pm (4 hrs per day)
Location: Peter Hobart Elementary
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meet with YEP Site Lead daily before the start of the shift.
- Follow all District, program and building health and safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of children and families.
- Be a positive role model and leader to staff and students.
- Assist with students during the transitional time with a snack break and recreational activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Manager.
- Support with the transition between Summer Learning Academy and Afternoon Enrichment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Comprehension of practices, techniques, and fundamentals of youth enrichment programming and services, teaching principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Understanding of child development theories and development stages and needs.
- Fundamentals of work coordination and delegation.
- Knowledge of behavioral management practices and fundamentals.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Implementing behavioral management practices.
- Dealing with children, staff, parents, administrators, and building personnel concerning issues and activities. Interactions require the explanation of program operational rules and working with others to gain cooperation and understanding of educational issues/needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and moving around to supervise and assist students.
- Occasional running or quick movement, especially in recreational or outdoor activities.
- Lifting and carrying program materials, sports equipment, or art supplies.
- Setting up and arranging tables, chairs, or activity stations.
- May require prolonged standing or physical participation in games, sports, or hands-on projects.
- Some roles may include outdoor supervision, requiring exposure to different weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work takes place in schools, classrooms, gymnasiums, libraries, or outdoor spaces.
- Involves rotating between different locations within the school or off site field trips.
- May be exposed to different weather conditions.
- Fast-paced environment requiring constant interaction with students and staff.
- Moderate to high noise levels due to student engagement, group activities, and movement.
- Requires adaptability to manage and maintain order in an energetic environment.
- Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Involves monitoring students during recess, events, or after-school programs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Two years of related youth experience is preferred.
