Description |
Job Title: Special Education Teacher Job Summary Special Education Teacher (Maternity Leave Coverage) for grades 5th and 6th to provide targeted instruction and support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) during a temporary leave period. This role focuses on addressing each student's unique learning needs while collaborating with staff to ensure access to grade-level curriculum for all learners. Primary Responsibilities- Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with students
- Provide direct instruction in one-to-one, small group, and inclusive classroom settings
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with individual student needs as outlined in IEPs
- Modify assignments and homework to support student access and success
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on instructional strategies, accommodations, and modifications
- Participate as an active member of the support services team
- Conduct informal assessments to monitor student progress
- Implement and, as needed, update IEP goals and objectives
- Write and maintain IEP documentation reflecting current performance, next steps, and grade-level expectations
- Complete trimester progress reports during the coverage period
- Monitor and support students' academic, behavioral, and social development
- Communicate regularly with families, including scheduling and facilitating IEP meetings as needed
- Promote student independence by helping students:
- Identify strengths
- Recognize areas of need
- Understand their learning profiles
- Develop effective learning strategies
Additional Responsibilities- Meet all timelines in compliance with state and federal regulations during the coverage period
- Maintain organized and up-to-date student records in accordance with guidelines
- Keep communication logs current
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Follow through on supervisor recommendations and required timelines
Qualifications- Massachusetts licensure in Moderate Special Needs required
Position Details- This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave
- Anticipated dates: September 1, 2026- January 31, 2027
- Maximum of 30 hours per week.
