Under supervision, the Pipeline Technician applies pipeline operations and maintenance skills to operate, repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on equipment such as pipelines, valves, valve actuators, instrumentation and electronic equipment, tubing and fittings, pig traps, and rectifiers. Performs line locates, maintains right-of-way (ROW) and markings, oversees foreign line crossings and third-party excavations near company pipelines. Operates and maintains assigned equipment in a manner that meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Maintains core operational task qualifications. Major Responsibilities • Responds to requests to mark out company facilities in accordance with accepted standards, including associated record-keeping. • Completes all required safety and Operator Qualification (OQ) training programs. • Locates facilities and reference points utilizing maps, drawings, and Global Positioning System (GPS). • Performs and/or assists with: o Pigging operations at various checkpoints on pipeline. o Compressor station operations o Various flow control equipment and troubleshooting of related subsystems o Startups, shut-downs, combustion control issues and operation of meter stations • Conducts preventative and emergency pipeline maintenance work including: o Leakage surveys o Integrity and cathodic protection surveys o Valve inspections and maintenance o Equipment calibration • Patrols pipelines and ROWs, installs and maintains pipeline and aerial markers, identifies and monitors encroachment issues, and develops positive relationships with landowners along the pipeline ROW. • Calculates, compiles, and/or prepares information and reports including, but not limited to: o Gas/liquid flow and quality o Maintenance and/or repair logs o Collecting samples (gas/liquids) o Pipeline/corrosion activities o Changing charts, gauging tanks, leakage survey/patrolling pipelines, blowing drips and construction watch/inspections • Complies with all regulatory, environmental and safety rules and standards, as well as company policies. • Maintains accurate records of repair and maintenance activities. • Documents changes to as-built drawings following repairs. • Suggests equipment improvements and new equipment purchases. • May be responsible for training less experienced technicians. • May be required to perform tasks from other disciplines. Position Requirements: • High school diploma or GED plus two years of experience in a mechanical-related environment required. • Associate’s degree with pipeline industry experience preferred. • Ability to read and utilize equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, alignment sheets and P&ID drawings. • Ability to appropriately respond to visual, audio and other signals, including alarms and instructions. • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA and state regulations) and company Standard Operating Procedures including required documentation. • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. • Must obtain OQ qualifications in concordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level and use physical force to lift, push, pull and operate equipment and tools. • Required to climb and work at various heights; may work in standing, sitting, lying, crouched, or kneeling positions. • Must be able to work in confined spaces and areas with limited access. • Required to work indoors and outdoors around mechanical, industrial, and electrical equipment with high noise levels. • Occasionally required to work in extreme temperatures due to weather conditions and operating equipment. • Must be able to get in and out of vehicles regularly and travel over rough terrain. • Will work near hazardous chemicals and may be required to wear SCBA and restrictive PPE. • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assigned responsibilities and manage all activities with a focus on safety and compliance. • May be subject to overtime, 24/7 call outs, and extended workdays and/or workweeks. • Must carry a cell phone. • May be assigned to shiftwork based on business needs. * The above job description is reflective of the primary duties of this position and in no way limits the supervisor from assigning any other duties, responsibilities or initiatives as deemed necessary. Other Details: Job Location Type is Onsite. Compensation: Expected base pay range for this role will be $59,000- $75,200. Base pay is based on several factors including, experience, skills, and knowledge. This role will be eligible to participate in an annual short term incentive program. This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
