Posting Number: 0601203 Position Title: Professor of the Practice of Music FLSA: Exempt Job Type: Full-Time Staff Term: Staff Work Schedule (hours/dates): Academic Year Schedule (dates): Faculty Term: Full Academic Year Position Type: Faculty Department: Music Job Summary/Basic Function: The Wheaton College (MA) Department of Creative Arts invites applications for a Professor of the Practice of Music position beginning July 1, 2025. We seek an accomplished choral conductor and music director with additional expertise as an accompanist on piano. Experience working in musical theater at the college level is desired. Teaching responsibilities include three courses per semester, of which two will be directing the college's chorale and chamber singers. Additional teaching duties will include directing musical theater productions on a biennial basis, coaching chamber ensembles, and/or offering sections of introductory music theory and ear training. Professors of the Practice are full-time teaching faculty who possess expertise and achievements in a field of instruction. Professors of Practice are expected to provide service to the college or/and their department after their first year. This is a full-time, renewable position focused on excellence in undergraduate teaching and pedagogical innovation. Professors of the Practice receive initial one-year contracts, become eligible for a two-year contract after their second year, and can seek promotion to Senior Professor of the Practice and ongoing three-year contracts after their fourth year. Professors of the Practice are eligible for college funding to support their professional development. Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in conducting, accompaniment, performance, or a related field is required. Preferred Qualifications: At least two years experience as instructor of record in directing a choral group at the college level.
