Laboratory Research Technician II The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology, is seeking a full-time technician to support newly funded research programs. The Elsner lab investigates immune responses during infection and autoimmune disease, focusing primarily on B cell responses (see Elsner et al Nature Immunology 2024; Sanz, Nature Immunology 2024; Elsner and Shlomchik, Immunity 2020; Elsner and Shlomchik, Immunological Reviews 2025). There are opportunities for independent projects within the mission of the laboratory, based on the applicant's skills and goals. Applicants that are interested in having their own independent project are encouraged to apply. The applicant will support the function of the laboratory and assist scientists conducting experiments in cellular and molecular immunology. Examples of the types of experiments performed include isolation of cells from murine and human cell systems, processing samples for flow cytometry, ELISA and ELISpot assays, and preparing tissues for immunofluorescence microscopy. The applicant should be very eager to learn new techniques and improve existing techniques. Qualifications: A Bacherlor's Degree in Immunology, Biology or related field plus one (1) Year of Professional Years of Experience is required in immunology/microbiology/molecular biology or other related fields. Knowledge of mathematical and chemical principles. Must be highly organized and efficient with their time. Must maintain professional demeanor and work well with others. Must be able to prioritize daily duties. Job Summary Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment. Essential Functions Responsibilities for this position include: 1. Assist scientists with experimental procedures, data collection, and analysis. Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as PCR, flow cytometry, and histology. 2. Oversee mouse colony management, breeding, PCR-based genotyping, and record-keeping. Must keep detailed and accurate records. 3. Maintain and order supplies as needed. 4. General maintenance of the work area.
